Tattoo FAQs

PLEASE NOTE: It is illegal to obtain a tattoo under the age of eighteen (18) in the State of Texas, there are absolutely no exceptions. Proper identification is required before you may be allowed to be tattooed.

How much does it cost?

Our shop minimum for tattoos is $80. Larger pieces are charged at an hourly rate. Your artist will provide you with a quote during consultation.

Does it hurt?

Everyone has a different threshold for pain so it depends on the person and the area to be tattooed. Tattoos placed over bone or where the skin is thinner tend to hurt more than on muscular / “meatier” parts of the body.

How long does it take to heal?

Approximately 2 weeks.

Can I get a tattoo when I’m pregnant or nursing?

No, you should not get a tattoo if you’re pregnant. If you’re nursing, consult your physician.

Can you get a tattoo over a scar?

It depends upon the scar, ask your tattoo artist for advice. For surgical scars, the recommended waiting time is 7 years, or you can obtain a note from your physician or dermatologist stating otherwise thus absolving any liability from your tattoo artist.

What if I want a tattoo covered up?

It depends on how dark the original tattoo is and what you are covering it with. Sometimes laser removal is necessary to achieve the desired look of a cover-up. Consult your tattoo artist for advice.

What causes tattoo scarring? Can it be fixed?

Generally, tattoo scarring is caused by either the needle penetrating too deeply or if it was healed inappropriately. A scarred tattoo can be touched up or covered, but it doesn’t eliminate the scarring and in some cases, can make it worse. However, you would still be able to see the original scarring either way.

PLEASE NOTE: It is illegal to obtain a piercing under the age of eighteen (18) in the State of Texas, unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Proof of such parentage or guardianship is required at the time of the piercing; this includes proper identification, birth certificate or decree of guardianship. Photocopies are not permitted, you must bring originals.

Crossroads Tattoo Studio does not perform piercings on children under the age of ten (10).

How much does it cost?

Piercings start at $50 and depend upon the piercing. For additional pricing, please call the shop.

Does it hurt?

Everyone has a different threshold for pain so it depends on the person and the area to be pierced.

How long does it take to heal?

It depends on what type of piercing you get. Some piercings / areas heal faster than others. The general time-frame is approximately 6 weeks, though some may take up to 6 months to completely heal. Your piercer will discuss healing times with you during your appointment.
